Schwinn Airdyne Upright Exercise
Bike Reviewed
The Schwinn
Airdyne upright exercise bike is not the most beautiful thing
on the eyes. Of
course, looks are great for a beauty contest, but they don't
matter much when it comes to exercising. If you're like me, you want
something that gets the job done and is pleasurable to
use. Also, you
don't want to spend more than you have to. Does the Schwinn Airdyne
satisfy all of these criteria? That's what we will discuss
in this review.
For $549,
this bad boy can be yours. While it's not the cheapest
bike you can find on the market, many cheap models do not last
that long. Often
times I find that it is better to invest a little more upfront
to save a lot more later down the line. What I like about the Airdyne
is that it's a classic -- you know exactly what you're getting
and you know exactly how it functions. You know you're getting
something good if it has been able to be manufactured without
changing the design for over 20 years!
I like the
Airdyne because of its air resistance
capabilities.
While the downside is that they can be a bit noisy, the
upside is that the friction and resistance is smoother,
and is more easily controlled -- just pedal faster -- and
the air you generate for resistance performs double duty
by cooling you off while you workout.
The fact is
that using air for resistance instead of using mechanical
resistance means that your bike will last
longer. In
fact, I'm not the only one who has owned an Airdyne for
over 10 years that still works practically as good as the
day I purchased it.
For it's
price, it is extremely well constructed, offers an excellent
workout and is very simple to use. Of course, do not expect to
use this bike when watching the television -- it is probably
too noisy. Also,
you don't want to exercise in a home office, because the wind
can blow around documents and papers.
Finally, I
won't lie to you -- it is a sight for sore
eyes. You're
not going to make it blend in with the rest of the decor
in your home. You have to hide it
from plain view, or accept the fact that it is
ugly.
However, if none of the disadvantages described above are
major for you, then the Schwinn Airdyne Upright Exercise
Bike is an excellent option. It is built to last,
and if you continue to use it throughout the years you
will get an excellent return on your
investment.
