Schwinn 130 Upright Exercise Bike

Schwinn 130 Upright Exercise Bike Reviewed

Maybe it's a personal choice.  I simply like recumbent exercise bikes more than upright exercise bikes.  I had used the Schwinn 230 recumbent bike and was completely satisfied with it.  Would I be as satisfied when trying out the Schwinn 130 upright?  that's what we'll find out in this review.

In the past, it seem like all exercise bikes were uncomfortable.  Of course, you just dealt with it because how else were you going to easily get a good workout in well doing things like watching television?  It was a necessary evil.  Then, for some of us, a blessing occurred.  Recumbent exercise bikes were being manufactured, and discomfort was now placed with actual comfort.

Let me be honest -- I wasn't thrilled with going back to an upright exercise bike.  However, to satisfy my curiosity to see if things had changed, I had to try it out.

And my opinion is still the same -- I prefer the Schwinn 230 recumbent over the Schwinn 130 upright.

Where the Schwinn 130 shines is in its small and compact design.  It is perfect for those who have little space to utilize for fitness equipment.  Also, where I was impressed by the 230's silent operation, the Schwinn 130 had the opposite.  It may loud noises and other unwanted distractions.

In addition, the seat is so uncomfortable that I wanted to rip it apart and set it on fire.  While it's true that you can get used to anything, you shouldn't have to when there are better options out there.  In addition, I found the Schwinn 130 wasn't constructed as solidly as some of the other models I have used by Schwinn.  I guess they can't get it right every time.

Usually Schwinn will overdeliver, when you compare the price you paid for it versus the quality that you receive.  However, in this case I think the reverse is true.  This is a cheap machine that doesn't offer any pleasant surprises on quality.  It's cheap because it is constructed cheaply, and isn't designed to be comfortable.

I'm not the only one who feels this way -- if you dig around the Internet, I'm sure you can find other reviews that support my conclusions.  Many people have even experienced problems with the bike resulting in it not even being able to work.  I don't know what happened -- but whatever the case I would recommend that you go with something else -- even if it is another upright bike.
